WHAT IS THE THEME?

The theme of this adventure is Virtual Photoshop Worlds, and your assignment is to discover your inner mask painter. Given that this year’s event takes place in Denver, mask ideas that leap to mind are wild animals, cowboys, or even the great outdoors itself. Whatever your decision, your newly acquired Photoshop painting skills will bring your creative mask to life. Choose from a collection of mask templates as a starting point, or create your mask from scratch.

WHAT ARE WE MAKING?

Your project begins with a selection of mask templates, and then you’ll start painting using images captured in class, as well as any images you bring with you on your computer. Or, use your camera to capture images from the local area. When your mask painting is complete, you will have it printed and then laser cut to your exact specifications. Start thinking about your design now, so Russell Brown and team can help you bring your mask design to life during class.

Russell Brown will be accompanied by the distinguished members of his team, which includes some of the best designers and instructors in the industry. Class size is limited in order to facilitate in-depth instruction, and give you plenty of time to ask questions of the experts conducting the class, as well as network with your colleagues.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR CLASS?

This is a hands-on class and each participant must bring their own computer to class. Both PC and MAC machines are welcome. However, keep in mind that teaching team members are Photoshop experts who are ready to help with your projects, but they cannot be responsible for fixing computers. Also please note, that your computer system software must be up-to-date, and you should have enough memory and disk space to handle a complex Photoshop project. If you do not feel comfortable with your own basic computer skills, and your portable computer is older than three years, this class is not recommended.

To participate, you must have the most current version of Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed before you arrive at the workshop. Do not fear! You will be able to download a FREE trial version of the Photoshop CS5 prior to arriving at class. Participants will not be allowed to enter the training room without this new version of Photoshop CS5 installed. Also, please be aware, internet access is very limited in the classroom, so be sure to bring all the images and necessary files for your project on your computer. Finally, to help make your painting experience truly magical, our friends at Wacom will loan an Intuos 4 tablet to each student during the class. The tablets must be returned at the end of the class.

PRIZES?

During the closing ceremonies on Sunday, each student will vote for their favorite mask. The designers of the 3 top winning masks will walk away with one of three special Adobe software prizes, including:

  • 1 copy of the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium
  • 1 Epson Stylus Photo R1900 Printer
  • 1 Wacom Intuos 4 tablet

Russell Brown and team look forward to meeting you and your Photoshop painted mask.

HARDWARE TOYS USED IN CLASS

Wacom tablet and pen will be available as a loaner to each student.
Epson R1900 Printer will be used for the final prints.
A Universal Systems Laser will be used to make precision cuts around the shape of your mask design.
