Adobe's mad scientist and senior art director Russell Brown brings together 120 top creatives for three days of fiendish learning.

September 3, 2008 - 12 noon until 9:00 PM

The Mandalay Bay Resort, Las Vegas

My suggested class theme will be "Classic Outer Space Movie Posters".

The grand prize for best lenticular poster will be an Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection.

The images above is a simulation of the type of 3D lenticular image that you will create in class. It is viewed without the use of any kind of 3D classes. Some limited animation will also be possible.

Welcome to Russell Brown's Adobe Photoshop Party!

If you're ready for a truly creative, hands-on experience, then this is the class you've been waiting for. Just bring some "out of this world imagination" and your own computer!

You may remember the coveted “winking eye” prize from boxes of Cracker Jacks. Easily identified by their textured surfaces, lenticular prints can now be made with layered Photoshop files, desktop inkjet printers, and the application of commercially available lenticular lenses. In this special Adobe Photoshop CS3 class we will cover the techniques behind masking  and layering images to create the illusion of 3-dimensionality with the help of an application called, Power Illusion. Adobe’s senior art director, the ever-entertaining “Dr. Brown” will guide you through this amazing adventure. All supplies necessary to create your very own Microlens, 16 X 20 inch lenticular image are included in this class. Because of the limited time for this event it will be important for you to prepare your layered documents before class starts. To help you with this process, I have created a class overview and series of masking tutorials. Please be sure and review all this information. I will also be presenting some of this same material in class as time permits.

What you will learn in class:

- Advanced masking techniques in Adobe Photoshop CS3

- Preparing 2D Photoshop files for lenticular imaging

- Depth map creation techniques for converting 2D images to 3D.

- Lenticular aligning and lamination techniques with ink jet printers

- Learn how to win cool Adobe prizes by just being creative!

You must bring your own MAC or PC laptop computer to class. Power will be supplied to all tables.

Please prepare your layered files before class starts. Instructions for creating these files can be found in my class overview tutorial and masking tutorials. I will also review this same material in class as time permits.

The official class theme will be "Classic Outer Space Movie Posters". This is a suggested theme, you are welcome to create the poster theme of your choice. The final 3D poster size will be 16 inches by 20 inches at 150dpi.

Be sure to clean up your computer drive to make space for additional software that will be supplied in class.

Class runs from 12:00 noon  until 9:00 PM. A light dinner, and soft drinks will be served during class so you can continue experimenting and working into the evening. Please be aware, to be eligible to win the Adobe Creative Suite Master Collection you must be in the class room during the final judging process. The closing ceremonies and prizes will be awarded at the end of class.
